Scouting While at Home

When will be the next campout or in-person gathering of the Troop?

This situation does not have a specific time frame, and we will notify you when our next in-person meeting will be. We’ve decided to suspend all Troop gatherings until further notice.

However, remember that the values of Scouting are not withheld to meetings and gatherings - the Scout Oath and Scout Law extends to all of your daily life and to all circumstances!

Rank: Can I still complete rank requirements?

Absolutely! As we’ve encouraged in the past, the vast majority of the Scouting rank requirements and merit badges may be practiced, learned and performed AT HOME!

For any rank requirement sign-off, Scouts should continue to contact our Scouts that are Star rank or above in order to arrange an online video-conference and/or phone call to discuss the completion of the requirement. Upon agreed successful "sign-off" after the conversation, the Scout completing the rank requirement may then print the date/time of the conversation and full name of the Star Scout within their Scout handbook.

If Scouts have completed all rank requirements or would like advice on current leadership opportunities for higher ranks, contact a Scoutmaster to schedule a videoconference. The use of Scoutmaster videoconferencing must follow all Youth Protection policies and Guide to Safe Scouting protocols, including 2-deep leadership.

After the completion of a Scoutmaster Conference, a Board of Review may also be conducted by a video conference as outlined in the Guide to Advancement (section 8.0.1.6).

Merit Badges: Can I still complete merit badges?

Absolutely! As we’ve encouraged in the past, the vast majority of the Scouting rank requirements and merit badges may be practiced, learned and performed AT HOME!

Various websites contain merit badge requirements, and many of the skills and topics can be demonstrated using supplies you have at home. In addition, to document your merit badge requirement responses, free worksheets are also available online for printing at home. Example: https://boyscouttrail.com/boy-scouts/bsa-merit-badges.asp

As noted by Council, all requirements must be completed as written in the merit badge book. Scouts should continue to work on requirements as far as possible.

Before starting a merit badge, please contact a Scoutmaster, so we can email you a "blue card" document.

If Scouts have completed all merit badge requirments, contact a Scoutmaster to obtain the names and contact information for local merit badge counselors. The use of videoconferencing for Merit Badge work has also been approved provided that all Youth Protection policies and Guide to Safe Scouting protocols are being followed, including 2-deep leadership.

Other Scouting Questions?

If there is a certain rank or merit requirement that a Scout feels that he cannot perform, please contact the Scoutmasters in order to brainstorm suggestions/ideas. We can always discuss options and find a solution together!
